The Diocesan Museum of Monreale and the Roano Chapel
The Diocesan Museum of Monreale flanks the wonderful Medieval Duomo and offers the public the opportunity to experience important masterpieces of sacred art, that tell us the history of art expression of the Diocese. The Museum develops over three floors inside the Archbishop's Palace beside Monreale Cathedral. On the ground floor a long corridor leads to theSan Placido Room which in turn gives access to the splendid cloister. The first floor includes two rooms which both have a terrific view to the gulf of Palermo and are filled with the most ancient artefacts of the Diocese. Such as The Madonna with Jesus Child by Luca della Robbia and many more. On the second floor, in two spacious communicating rooms, with the famous Roano Chapel, the exhibition takes us through the history of the Diocese, thanks to the foresight and commitment of the Spanish archbishop, who in 1600 collected all the objects of liturgical art .
