Historical notes

The Casa Professa Church, which is the parent company of the Gesù company, is the largest and most spectacular example of Barocco Siciliano . I gesuiti began to build it in the late 16th century, on a site paleocristiano  of eremiti refuge and in particular San Calogero, that suddenly is in a cave. The Church was almost destroyed by Allied bombings of World War II but was rebuilt completely restoring the magnificence of marble, the statues of tarsias and endless arabesques that formal the walls of the temple. Professed house is an important example of fusion between architecture, painting and decorating marble, plastic performed by countless workshops with floral and figured. In 1954, on either side of the main altar, was installed a large pipe organ in electrical transmission and four keyboards.
