The Massimo Theatre Vittorio Emanuele
The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is an Opera House and Opera company located in the Piazza Verdi in Palermo. Only in 1897, 22 years after the beginning of its building, it was opened. It was dedicated to King Vittorio Emanuele II. The architect who projected it was G.B.F. Basile but his son Giovanni could really finish it. It is the biggest Opera Theatre in Italy and one of the largest of Europe, to be precise the third after the Opéra National de Paris and the K. K. Hof-Opernhaus in Vienna. It is well-renowned for its perfect acoustics. The ceiling is removable and from the outside the visitor can get into the Theatre through huge stairs and on both sides two wonderful bronze lions which are the alegories of Tragedy and Lirica Opera.
