Historical notes
The Whitaker family came from West-Yorkshire England. Transplanted in Sicily in the mid-19th century, has had an active role in the Italian Risorgimento. The Villa Malfitano was built by Joseph Whitaker in 1885 and was the residence of the family until his last descendants. Since 1975 is the seat of the homonymous Foundation and preserves the artistic and cultural heritage built up over time by Joseph Whitaker passionate ornithologist, botanist, archaeologist. In the House Museum are objects of rare beauty from the Pechino Imperial Palace, from Russia precious porcelains, corals, tapestries, books, works of art and antiques from the late liberty siciliano ' 800.
