Church of St John the Baptist the Neapolitan nation
The Church of Saint John the Baptist the Neapolitan nation (this used to be the full name) is a church of the district courts of Palermo.
In 1527 the rectors of the brotherhood of St John the Baptist the Neapolitan nation, bringing together from 1519 Neapolitan merchants operating at Palermo, he directed great court assigning two warehouses at the old harbour of Cala to build their new Church. What possessed earlier in fact, was too close to Castello a Mare and was demolished by order of Charles V.
The plan of the new Church is medieval Sicilian tradition, with three naves and a portico in front of court. Inside, the naves are separated by arches on marble columns. Construction was completed in 1617.
Inside the white and Golden stucco decoration is the work of Procopio Serpotta, and is a typical example of a rehash of the eighteenth century.
