The Theatre Biondo

This theatrev represents the last expression of the 19th century architectures in Palermo. Between the end of this century and the beginning of the 20th century Palermo was culturally and economically rich and its Borgeaousy with the family Florio on top supported many initiatives. Through Ernesto Basile the Art Nouveau style was enriching the town and the theatres in town were all crowded. The audience could choose between two proposals: they could choose to go to the opera theatre which was the Massimo or to go to the Politeama Theatre which was more popular but rich of alternative included circus and classic music concerts. The third Theatre in town, the Biondo was born to satisfy the Borgeausy which wanted to follow commedies, plays and pieces sitting in an elegant but also comfortable new theatre. It was inaugurated in 1903 with the presence of the famous actress Eleonora Duse and Ermete Novelli.
